Cavan Monaghan Future Watch is a group of local residents who care deeply about the future of our community. We seek to connect with others in our community with the following overarching goals in mind:

1. to protect and steward our township’s precious natural resources and agricultural lands;

2. to respect, benefit and integrate members of our whole community;

3. to support the creation and expansion of a sustainable local economy;

4. to collaborate with other residents of Cavan Monaghan so that we can meaningfully participate in the development process and contribute to development decisions that will affect our quality of life, and 

5. to help shape the growth of the Township so it does not unfold with the sort of characteristic sprawl that we have seen across so much of the Province.

 

We are excited to have the opportunity to join as a community and to begin work to offer support to our new council. Our Township has limited resources - 'part-time' elected officials who are really working full-time, a small staff and only two planners with a massive amount of work on their desks. We hope to draw from the many resources and fount of expertise within the community to pull together the great ideas that have been circulating for a long time and to offer council the opportunity translate these ideas into concrete actions.

 

Our hope is to translate ideas into action. We are still evolving and figuring out the best way we can work to support but we will generally strive to do the following things:

 

1. Work with residents in the community to research and gather ideas and build consensus around what ideas will help shape the future of Cavan Monaghan as it grows. 

 

2. Tap into the technical skills of our residents to provide free assistance to Council and Staff as it navigates important decisions.

 

3. Use the legal and technical backgrounds of some of our members to

i) offer constructive comments and review on planning documents;

ii) research precedents from other municipalities and pull them together in order to create a set of draft tools for a strong legal framework for our community; and

iii) translate technical documents into draft policy.
